The Journey

Hajat hati memang nak tengok wayang ni di panggung.
Sebab aku selalu baca review yang bagus tentang movie ni.
The best Malaysian made movie katanya.
So aku subscribe movie The Journey on Saturday night.
Aku tak letak expectation yang tinggi sangat, takut kecewa.
The movie package disertakan dengan The Making Of sekali, berselang seli dengan movienya.
Tapi aku tak nak tengok The Making tu, sebab selalunya dari The Making aku boleh tangkap jalan cerita.Takut spoil mood pulak nanti.

Let's layan sinopsis dulu:-

The Journey tells the story of Uncle Chuan (Frankie Lee), a conservative father with a rigid set of rules. When his daughter, Bee (Joanne Yew) returns home after spending most of her formative years in England with a fiance, Benji (Ben Pfeiffer) in-tow, Uncle Chuan refuses to give his blessing. With cultural differences and language barrier that could potentially damage the union between Benji and his loved one, he feels that something must be done quick. Uncle Chuan reluctantly allows them to marry but on one condition — the wedding ceremony has to be in the traditional way. Despite their lack of understanding towards one another, Benji and Uncle Chuan embark on a nationwide journey to hand-deliver wedding invitations to the latter’s childhood friends. Throughout the journey, the two learn valuable lessons about accepting each other’s differences.

Begitu lebih kurang ceritanya.

You might be surprised when you know that almost semua casts ni sebenarnya pertama kali berlakon.
Aku pun tau bila tengok 'The Making Of' tu.
And I must say for a newbie, they're not bad at all.
Maklumlah kebanyakan pelakon dah warga emas but then they deliver well!
Kalah some actors/actresses yang kononnya dah bertahun pengalaman (tapi hasil sedehhhhh).
One thing I do not like is the girl yang bawa watak Bee.
A bit unrealistic sebab katanya dah lama tinggal di England.
Tapi accent pekat Manglish (Malaysian English)
Patutnya kalau dah lama tinggal di England (since 11-12 yrs old as portrayed in this movie) haruslah accent kau English pekat.
Selain tu, aku bagi thumbs up.

Overall, bagi aku memang cerita ni best, lain dari typical Malaysian movie.
It's a light kind of movie about family, friendship, customs and so forth.
Funny, yes. Heartwarming, yes. Worth watching, yes.
Tak menyesal aku subscribe and tengok berkali kali :)

Here's are some photos from the movie, ihsan Google.Com:-
Benji & Bee baru sampai di kampung si Bee. Cubaan memecahkan pintu sebab Benji nak terberak but no one at home.
Uncle Chuen & Benji during their mission. Uncle Chuen terpaksa bawa motor pulak sebab benji kehilangan dompet & lesen memandu.

Dunring Uncle Chuen's bff's funeral but he did not enter the Funeral House due to customs (because his daughter is getting married so it is considered a bad luck for brides/grooms family to attend any funeral). Benji is upset because he don't understand why Uncle Chuen refused to pay his last respect and begin to question his loyalty to his friends. The little boy is the grandson of the deceased and Benji's getting his help to translate his words to Uncle Chuen but the translation came out quite funny.

Uncle Chuen visiting Fatimah (old classmate) sambil hantar kad jemputan

The 'plastic hot air baloon'. Original idea by Uncle Chuen's classmate (dubbed 'ketua kelas' a.k.a Pig according to Chinese Zodiac Calendar). It was his dream to build a hot air baloon out of plastic garbage bag, however unable to do so due to his passing. To materialize his dream, Benji, with help from Uncle Chuen and his crews of 9 others (except Fatimah) begin building the baloon. Needless to say, it's a success.

And here's the catchy, ending song of the movie. Enjoice!
